From 60 Seconds to 60 Minutes

It’s hard to believe a year ago I started running just a little ole 60 seconds thinking that was a long time wondering when Matt was going to blow that whistle for us to start walking and today I ran 60 minutes (actually 1 hour and 5 seconds) 6.24 miles!! Whoo!! 😀  Even though I was tired I think I could have gone on just a little longer. It’s amazing how the body adapts. My heart rate is adjusting as well; it was well within range even though my pace was a little faster. This was not a good week here in WV for running because of all the storms so I did not get out much this week. And you could tell this morning; there were a lot of people out walking, running and biking, like they had cabin fever and everyone needed to get out.

As most have seen on the news we have had bad flooding here in WV, the park (Magic Island) were we start our runs is completely under water:

The green fixtures on the left are part of a new water splash that was supposed to open this weekend but that obviously will be delayed. It will have to be cleaned. You can see the volleyball nets on the right. The running trail is completely under water.

As we went along we went passed Haddad River Front Park where concerts are held on Friday nights.

There was a lot of debris in the river when we did our turn around we could tell the water was starting to recede a little. The weather is supposed to be warm and no rain so that will be good for those who are starting the process of rebuilding.

The 5k race is next week and unfortunately I will be out of town I won’t be able to be there (bummer), it’s what I call my anniversary race too. It’s the race that got me started The Firecracker 5k. So I will find a race when I get back to cap off my nine weeks of training. But Rich and I took our picture so we would have our year photo…

What a difference a year makes! Hard work does pay off! If you keep at it, stay focused on your goal you can achieve and do what ever you want. It’s worth it if work it.

Two years ago there was an event that happened which sent me on an emotional rollercoaster; starting this program was a way to get off that rollercoaster. Once I finished that first 5k I got the running bug and haven't stopped running since.
